The first baby born in 2009 at Resurrection Medical Center, 7435 W. Talcott Ave., Chicago, is a girl -- 7-pound 13-ounce Julia Oleksy. She was delivered by Dr. Steven Bujewski, an obstetrician/gynecologist.
Julia's official arrival time was shortly after midnight -- at 12:39 a.m. Jan. 1. She is the first child of Joanna Kosmowska and Krzysztof Oleksy, of Des Plaines. The couple's extended family members live in Poland.

FREEDOM - A Watsonville man in his 40s was stabbed three times early today while leaving a holiday party on Manfre Road, according to authorities.
The man was about to be picked up by a friend outside the house just after midnight when he was jumped by four or five Latino males, Sheriff's Sgt. Christine Swannack said. TOWNSHIP 13, RANGE 5, Maine (AP) — Game wardens say poor visibility and high speed were possible contributing factors in the death of a 15-year-old Windham teenager who was killed when he crashed his snowmobile into a tree in northern Maine.

A girl who initially survived a fall from her family's
fifth-floor window in a Bronx tenement died yesterday morning, police said.
The 7-year-old girl, identified by police as Chelsea Maldonado, fell 50 feet Wednesday but authorities said she was semiconscious and "making noises" when emergency medical personnel arrived at the building at 1245 Grand View Place.
