VA secretary tours medical center in Maine

AUGUSTA, Maine -- The head of the Department of Veterans Affairs says he wants to make it easier for veterans in rural states such as Maine to access health care, counseling and other services offered by his department.
Secretary James Peake toured the Togus VA Medical Center on Friday to meet with veterans and discuss operations and issues.

Bush Gets MRI on Left Shoulder

ABC News' Huma Khan Reports: President George W. Bush on Monday got an MRI of his left shoulder and a cortisone injection for pain at the Walter Reed Medical Center before visiting wounded soldiers at the hospital.
White House physician, Dr. Richard Tubb conducted the MRI and set up the appointment after Bush experienced intermittent pain, but the doctor said it's "probably just wear and tear from an active individual."

Kansas VA hospital says it cut staph in half

WICHITA, Kansas (AP) - The Veterans Administration hospital in Wichita reports it has cut contagious staph infections in half since 2007.
The Robert J. Dole Medical Center credits screening all incoming patients with nose swabs. It isolates those who test positive for a staph germ called methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

3 women wounded in Compton drive-by shooting

COMPTON, Calif.—Authorities say three women have been wounded in a drive-by shooting in Compton.
Sheriff's Sgt. Douglas Iketani says suspects in an older model black Toyota fired about 10 rounds at the women with an assault-type weapon Wednesday night.
Iketani says rounds hit one woman in the shoulder and two of them in the buttocks.
The women were being treated at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Their condition was described only as stable.

New Zumba Fitness class at community center

REDLANDS - The Redlands Police Department Community Services Division is offering a new Zumba Fitness class.
